Hallstatt Ostuferweg. Around the lake

Last Updated on 01/08/2023

Hallstatt Ostuferweg is a popular hiking and cycling trail overlooking Hallstatt and Lake Hallstatt. There is also a hiking and cycling trail along the eastern bank of the Hallstattersee (where the railway runs). It is part of a long bike trail that goes to a nearby lake. In some places, it goes along footbridges above the water.

But don’t forget about about the Soleleitungsweg – the path that leads over the lake from the salt mine to Bad Ischl. In 2021, it was under repair (the condition in 2022 must be checked). The most picturesque part, with information stands, suspension bridge – from Hallstatt to Gosau Mühle.

Hallstatt Ostuferweg

Asphalt and ground road

Length – from car park 1 to the ferry opposite Hallstatt 5 km, from the restaurant (2, Obersee stop) to the ferry 3.5 km
Pleasure – 4-5*
Education – 0
Age – any

You can get there by car to the parking lot (1) from the Strandbad Untersee. This is a dead-end parking lot, the road to it is very narrow, you will doubt more than once that you really can go there.

Pros – very nice place for swimming – lawn, cabin, views.
Cons – too far to walk to the ferry.

Parking (2) and the restaurant are on the other road, following the signs to Obersee. There is also a railway station near the restaurant.
Pros – not so far from the ferry.

So the trail looks like.

Pötschen

But what is the number 3 on the map? This is an observation deck at the Pötschen serpentine turn on the road to Bad Aussee. Now the site is abandoned, but it is clear that until recently there was a toilet and, possibly, a kiosk. The easiest way to get there is from two parking lots on the opposite side of the road (that is, on the inside of the turn, there is a tunnel).
