Lido di Jesolo beach, map and what to do

Last Updated on 17/01/2024

The Venetian lagoon is the closest Adriatic resort region from Germany. We chose Lido di Jesolo. The coastline here is continuous lined with hotels and campings, from Punta Sabbione (the end point of the peninsula from where vaporettos leave for Venice) to Eraclea.

There are few alternatives to Lido di Jesolo. The lagoon is very large, but there are beaches only in those cities that overlook the sea. In the lagoon the shores are overgrown with reeds. Herons and fishermen fish there.

By the sea, the closest beach to Venice is Venice Lido (Lido di Venezia) – a large island that closes Venice from the sea. But you have to get there by ferry. It is not very pleasant to depend on the ferry.

Chioggia is located quite far from Venice and it would take a boat or a car to get to Venice – rather long and inconvenient. And I wanted to visit Venice. It brings us back to Lido di Jesolo.

Lido di Jesolo How to get

You can get to Lido di Jesolo by public transport – by bus from Mestre or the airport and by intercity buses, for example from Milan or Austria.

Cars
There is no highway. The signs on the highway and the navigator suggest that you exit at Mestre, then drive past the airport and further along single-lane filled roads.
On Saturdays and Sundays in the morning and in the evening (at 9 am on Saturday there is already a traffic jam), but also on Thursday-Friday mornings there are a lot of cars, the tempo is from slow to standing.

It seems more reasonable to me to approach the entrance from Eraclea during the resort “rush hours”.

If there is no traffic jam, the drive from Mestre to Lido takes about 40 minutes, by bus – 1 hour.

Public transport in Lido di Jesolo

City public transport is very mysterious. There is no line map. At stops, large numbers indicate the stop number, but not the number of the bus that is stopping.
On the company’s website, the line to Punta Sabbioni is called 23. But there was no such a bus in the city, however there was number 5 going in the same direction. Actually, besides number 5, I did not observe other city buses.
Look actuel timetable on the site, however don’t trust them.

Number 5 stops not only at the bus station and then, as indicated on the website, at the Internationale Square. There are also intermediate stops (for example, at the tourist information).

A ticket to Punta Sabbioni costed 3.50 one way and 5.50 both ways (I give the old price for orientation). There were passes for several days. At the bus station, you can buy a ticket from the cashier or from the machine. In the city – at newsstands or at the driver’s.

Buses to Treviso and Castelfranco were spotted at the bus station. Also, from the bus station, you can theoretically go to Udine, Lignano, Caorle, Milan, Padua, Belluno, Vicenza. Some routes are only summer. The most popular, of course, is the bus to Venice (Piazza Roma – Mestre – airport – bus station in Lido di Jesolo)

Lido di Jesolo map

The town-planning idea of this city: a 15-kilometer city beach and its annexes – two relatively large streets parallel to the beach, and the same parallel road on the outskirts for communication with neighboring resorts.

The endless beach is divided into four sections from east to west: Pineta, Center East, Center West and Faro. There is no distinct center.

Faro is an area with an extensive marina and water park.

The most central and developed is the Center West, the noisiest and most entertaining section of which is from Piazza Mazzini to Piazza Casa Blanca.

Next to the latter is Piazza Brescia: the tourist office (pathetic – few booklets and, as a result, a long queue to the staff) and the Tropicarium.

At the entrance to the city, a huge automobile circle was made with a large number of exits. Around the circle there is a large shopping center “Laguna”, an aquarium of the Sea Life chain, and an amusement park “New Jesolandia“. Just behind the shopping center there is a bus station (Via Firenze – goes from Piazza Trieste). Finding it was not the easiest thing – for some reason, it is not indicated on many maps of the city.

The least developed area is Pineta, which is still green.

Lido di Jesolo beach

The sea in Jesolo is clean, transparent, cloudy from the sand, only when there are strong waves. The entire beach is lined with umbrellas and sun loungers. They are assigned to hotels, and hotel guests are received a pass with the number of the umbrella reserved for them. The inspectors go very often, but they check the passes only selectively, according to their own criteria. We have not been checked even once.

In general, the sea is safe. There are jellyfish. The main thing with jellyfish – they are bad for your eyes. If you get hurt – wash with hot water. And even worse are dragon fish (weever).

I was “lucky” to step on the last one. This beast sits, buried in the sand and exposing only its eyes and a poisonous fin. The pain is terrible, I can tell you. How to escape – swimming in slippers. And if you step on it, you should immediately consult a doctor at a medical center on the beach. There are such centers in every sections. The doctor will heat the suffered leg for an hour in almost boiling water. Acute pain disappears in half an hour, it hurts by walking for another three days, and when pressed, it still hurts after a month. Depending on the type of dragon and its size, the problem can grow to hospitalization. But in Jesolo, as far as I understand, there is a smaller and less poisonous species of dragon.

Lido di Jesolo What to do

A shopping street passes through the central part, which has different names – Dante Alighieri, Andrea Bafili, Verdi, etc. From 20.00 to 6.00 travel along this street is limited (you can only get to your hotel at a snail’s speed). Even at the end of the season, from 20.30 on this street practically demonstrations are marching.

The shopping street offers:
shops (open in the morning until 12, then from 16 until late at night),
children’s attractions and carousels,
rental of bicycles, strollers, four-wheeled bicycles. The latter entertainment is very popular. It is better to leave early, before 8 pm, while there are still not many people.

For children, there are small attractions and carousels on the shopping street (from 1-2 euros at a time), playgrounds Gomma Piuma (several in the city in different places (for example, at the bus station) and the amusement park New Jesolandia.

One German called New Jesolandia in a review the graveyard of market carousels. Well, it looks like this: a lot of old slides and merry-go-rounds, 2.50-3 euros at a time. The amount can be rather big as a result and higher than in more modern parks with a single entry price and unlimited. On Sundays, the price is reduced to € 1 per time. Playgrounds and an amusement park are open in the evenings – from 20.00.

You can ride a bike, but the views are pretty monotonous.

The best entertainment in the city is the Aqualandia water park. It has very good reviews. The park combines slides and pools with other entertainment (shows). Therefore, the price is quite high. There is a simpler water park in Mestre.

There are two aquariums in the city: Sea Life and Tropicarium. We did not go to the first one, everything is clear with it. After several different aquariums on this network, I don’t have a very high opinion of them.
At the bus station I saw special offers with a lower price – only for such special offers it is worth going there.

Tropicarium is also from the “small but expensive” series, but at least there is a little more interesting.

The center consists of
a tropical park (turtles, snakes, lizards, penguins – I wonder what they do in tropical?),
a smaller aquarium,
a large aquarium with sharks and crocodiles (Predators)
and plastic dinosaur models (Abyssi).

The information about the price on the site was different from practice. In practice, it was suggested to visit only the last three (without the tropics) for a smaller price, or all four in two days for more money.

The simple aquarium is small, the Abyssi deserve little attention at all. But the Predators was very impressive – large (and not small, as is usually the case in aquariums) sharks and crocodiles.

Other excursions are: for example, Treviso, Padua, Brenta villas, Euganean hills etc. Read about it here: Possible excursions in the region on the map.
