Sankt Peter Ording (SPO) is the most developed resort on the shores of the Wadden Sea north of the Elbe. Only the island of Sylt is more known than it. This determines housing prices and a high resort tax, which is also levied on day tourists.
The resort occupies the tip of the Eiderstedt peninsula. In this topic we will explore St. Peter Ording and find out where it makes sense to stay, what you can see in this part of the peninsula, where are which beaches and where to ride a bike.
Let’s continue to explore Wadden Sea. This time the section between Büsum and Husum, the center of which is occupied by the large peninsula of Eiderstedt, crowned by the resort of St. Peter Ording (SPO).
This central part of the western coast of Schleswig-Holstein is the most developed. Higher up are the islands and the so-called Hallige – unprotected islands that do not have dikes – and go all the way to the island of Sylt and the Danish border. And the further we move from the center and the Elbe, the watt is more pleasant, the water is cleaner, the coast is not so littered with algae, bird feathers and small jellyfish. Apparently, the proximity of the fairway near Kugelbake allows all these pieces to get to the coast.
Sahlenburg is a tourist village, a bit away from Cuxhaven in the direction of Bremerhaven. It did not extend along the sea, but perpendicular to it. Even in the high season it is easier to find accommodation here, there is also a large camping. This area is “pure nature”: clean beach, pine forest, moorland. As well as its outdoor pool, several riding stables and a rope park.
From here it is only about 10 km to the island of Neuwerk (on foot or by carriage).
The North Sea in this part is called Wattenmeer. This is such a sea-swamp – the ebb tide goes far, leaving a minimum amount of water and the ability to walk on the sand for kilometers. With its soothing blue landscape, the Wadden Sea will provide you with the ultimate escape from reality. I have never seen a more relaxing place. However, there is also something to see here.
