In this part I collect German idioms (Redewendungen) expressing surprise and astonish.
Expressions that are noted as “common” in sources or that I have come across in books are printed in bold. usg. – umgangssprachlich (colloquial)

For ten years I have tried different word memory programs. The main problem was that I was not satisfied with the translation “word to word”. For German language it’s simply not enough. Only at the very first stages of learning you can use “naked” word without article and forms.
The advantages of Anki are its amazing flexibility. The disadvantage is the necessity to understand, how it works, if you want something more. However, everything is not complicated and is quite accessible for most users. The most detailed description of the program is given in English.
Now we look what questions about history of Germany after Second World war – GDR and FRG – has Leben in Deutschland test. The first part was devoted to the period before the war and during the war.

It was difficult, to out how to translate “respectively” in a sentence like “you can get to Niesen und Stockhorn with a train – stations Mülenen and Erlenbach, respectively.” Dictionaries usually pay much attention the meaning of “accordingly, in accordance with something”
This field of questions in Leben in Deutschland test (Orientierungstest, Einbürgerungstest) covers mainly some workers’ rights and social insurance.
